Personalizing Pediatric Care Through Innovative Diagnostics

The Center for Clinical Diagnostics at Nemours Children’s advances pediatric health care through innovative laboratory research and testing. We bridge clinical practice and research by developing and implementing specialized diagnostic assays to meet the unique needs of children.Ìý

Located in Delaware Valley, our team provides high-complexity testing focused on transplant immunology, gastroenterology, and autoimmune disorders. We use the latest technologies, including multiplexed immune assays, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and next-generation sequencing. Our results inform diagnosis, treatment, and condition management.Ìý

In addition to testing services, we collaborate with researchers, participate in clinical trials, and publish impactful findings so that kids everywhere can benefit.Ìý

Our work has led to new insights and assays for detecting problems like organ transplant rejection, graft-versus-host disease, viruses, and gut inflammation.Ìý

Moving Research Forward: By the Numbers

With a proven track record of research excellence and innovation, the Center for Clinical Diagnostics advances pediatric medicine to improve outcomes for children.Ìý

Focus Areas & Themes

Our center focuses on developing and offering high-complexity pediatric diagnostic testing. Our mission is to bring the latest research advancements to clinical practice, improving patient care through innovative lab testing.ÌýWe focus on:

  • Transplant monitoring: Developing and performing specialized tests to support transplant patients, such as assays to monitor for infection, rejection, and graft-versus-host disease.Ìý
  • Autoimmunity and inflammation: Creating autoantibody profile panels to facilitate faster diagnosis and management of systemic autoimmune disorders, lupus, vasculitis, and rheumatoid arthritis.Ìý
  • Gastroenterology health: Advancing diagnostic testing for gastrointestinal and nutritional issues like enzyme deficiencies, gut inflammation, and pulmonary impacts.
  • Researcher collaboration: Identifying needs and opportunities for new pediatric tests.

Laboratory Research

Our research labs develop and validate cutting-edge diagnostic tests across key areas. Our goal is to translate promising biomarker discoveries and analytical methods into clinically useful tests that allow for a more personalized diagnosis and treatment. Specific research involves:Ìý

  • Measuring cytokines involved in transplant rejection
  • Optimizing autoantibody testing using multiplex assays to diagnose autoimmune conditions
  • Validating stool and blood tests for digestive enzyme deficiencies, celiac disease markers and gut inflammation
  • Leveraging technologies like PCR, ELISA, and Luminex platforms
