Immunology Research

Understanding & Retraining the Immune System

Nemours Children’s immunology research explores how the body protects itself and what happens when those defenses don’t work as they should. Our work includes both diagnostic science and therapeutic innovation. We’re identifying immune dysfunction in children and developing new treatments that help the immune system fight back.

Our researchers advance the science of childhood autoimmunity, allergy, inflammation, and immunotherapy. We study the immune response at the molecular level and in clinical care settings.Together, we’re working to improve how immune system disorders are diagnosed, treated, and ultimately understood.

Key Areas of Research

Female health care provider wearing scrubs looks into a young boy's ear with an otoscope.

Autoimmune & Inflammatory Disorders |Studying how immune responses lead to conditions like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis and improving how we detect and track these diseases in kids.

Cytokine & Cell Signaling Pathways |Exploring how immune cells communicate, and how we can target those signals to understand or treat disease.

T Cell Engineering & Cancer Immunotherapy |Developing new T cell therapies, including CAR-T cells, to treat childhood cancers more safely and effectively.

Immunotherapy for Allergies |Creating cell-based treatments that stop the immune cells causing severe allergies like asthma and food reactions.

Checkpoint Targets & Immune Regulation |Discovering new immune system “off switches” that could lead to better treatments for cancer and inflammatory disease.

Clinical Trials & Research Studies

Pediatric clinical trials and research studies are important for advancing medical knowledge and improving care for kids around the world. Our researchers lead clinical research to study new drugs, treatments, devices and techniques. We also contribute to national registries and collaboratives to further research in this area. Where Immunology Research Happens

Immunology research at ǿմý takes place in dedicated laboratories within our Delaware Valley campus. Our teams collaborate closely with clinical specialists and academic partners to move discoveries from the lab bench to bedside. Our research reaches across specialties, from rheumatology and infectious disease to oncology and allergy.
