Orthopedics Research
Breakthrough Discoveries in Pediatric Musculoskeletal Health
Orthopedic research at Nemours Children’s focuses on how bones, joints, and muscles grow — and how to support healthy development. We study conditions that affect children’s movement, growth, and quality of life, from skeletal disorders to injuries and spine deformities.
In the Delaware Valley, our teams lead national efforts in surgical innovation, gait analysis, and neuromuscular care. In Florida, researchers are exploring biomechanics, bone healing, and regenerative approaches to support recovery. Across locations, we’re building tools and treatments that help children move more easily, grow more safely, and heal more fully.
Key Areas of ResearchÌý

Skeletal Dysplasia & Genetic Bone Disorders |ÌýStudying rare bone conditions like Morquio A to improve early diagnosis, treatments, and quality of life.
Surgical Innovation in Bone & Joint Conditions |ÌýImproving care for children through better diagnostics, treatment planning, and surgical techniques.
Neuromuscular Disorders & Gait |ÌýUsing motion analysis, artificial intelligence, and data to guide interventions for children with cerebral palsy and other movement challenges.
Bone Healing & Regenerative Therapies |ÌýExploring new materials, growth factors, and biologics that support healing and recovery after injury or surgery.
Biomechanics & Movement Science |ÌýMeasuring joint function and load-bearing stress to design care plans tailored to a child’s anatomy and activity level.
Orthopedics Clinical Trials & Studies
Our orthopedic research teams lead and support a wide range of clinical studies, including prospective trials, surgical registries, and long-term outcomes research. Areas of focus include gait and movement analysis, neuromuscular care, skeletal dysplasias, and rare genetic bone disorders.
We collaborate with national networks such as the Harms Study Group, the Hip Hope Network, and the Brittle Bone Disorders Consortium. These partnerships allow us to contribute to large-scale datasets, test new technologies, and bring advanced treatments to more children at Ðǿմ«Ã½.

Where Orthopedics Research Happens
Orthopedics research at Ðǿմ«Ã½ is closely integrated into patient care. Investigators collaborate across specialties and campuses to study movement, growth, healing, and the conditions that affect them. Research happens in both Delaware Valley and Florida, with each site contributing unique expertise and focus areas.
