Neuroscience Research

Illuminating Discovery in Brain Health for Kids

At Nemours Children’s, our neuroscience research is reshaping how we understand and care for the developing brain.ÌýFrom drug-resistant epilepsy to brain injury at birth, our work spans a full continuum of pediatric neuroscienceÌýconditions, helping children grow, learn, and thrive.Ìý

Our approach is deeply collaborative.ÌýOur researchers, neurologists, neurosurgeons, geneticists, and imaging scientists are united by a shared goal: To discover and deliver new treatments that improve lives.Ìý

Key Areas of ResearchÌý

Group of medical staff meeting

Epilepsy & Brain Development |ÌýStudying how seizures affect memory and learning in early life, and how personalized treatments can preserve cognitive function.

Neonatal Brain Injury |ÌýInvestigating how oxygen deprivation and inflammation at birth impact brain development and long-term outcomes.

Motor Neuron Diseases | Identifying therapies that target shared disease mechanisms in rate motor neuron diseases like spinal muscle atrophy.

Precision Imaging & Drug DiscoveryÌý|ÌýDeveloping individualized treatments for brain conditions with advanced scans, 3D modeling, and genetic screening.

Brain Support Cells & Inflammation |ÌýExploring how cells like astrocytes and microglia influence seizures, healing, and the health of brain networks.

Clinical Trials & Research Studies

Clinical trials are a critical part of how we bring discoveries from the lab into care. Our neuroscience researchers lead and participate in studies that test new therapies, technologies, and approaches to treating pediatric brain and nervous system conditions.

Our work includes trials focused on seizure prevention, brain injury recovery, advanced imaging, and personalized treatments for rare neurodevelopmental disorders. These studies help us improve care for the children we serve today, and generations to come.

Where Neuroscience Research Happens

Neuroscience research at Ðǿմ«Ã½ is conducted through the Neuroscience Research Center in Delaware Valley, which brings together translational labs focused on brain development, imaging, and drug discovery. Our teams collaborate closely with experts in neurology, neurosurgery, neonatology and neurodevelopmental medicine. We’re supported by integrated partnerships across the health system that help move discoveries to benefit children.Ìý
